DISCIPLINE – THE MASTER KEY TO YOUR MIND & LIFE – Article by Annie Kallis, Inspirationalist
Everything we want in life starts with a dream, which in return will create the desire and passion to have it and then the decision to achieve it. In order to achieve it, there is a key ingredient that is absolutely essential for that dream to actualise – DISCIPLINE.
What is Discipline? Based on the dictionary, discipline is a moral obligation in many societies throughout history and has some of the following definitions:
- It is the action or inaction that is regulated to be in accordance with a system of governance. In society it is commonly applied to regulate both human and animal behaviour (Oh wow! Good to know that I am at the mercy of someone else’s rules!)
- It is the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behaviour using punishment to correct disobedience (Oh really? Now I am getting annoyed!)
Now, I might not agree with the dictionary descriptions, however, discipline is the most important ingredient in achieving one’s dreams and goals. So, let me share with you a different definition of discipline that actually serves YOU.
“Discipline is doing WHAT you have to do, WHEN you have to do it, WHETHER you like it or not”
What do you think is the most important part of this statement? What? When? Or Whether you like it or not? Whilst you ponder the answer I’ll give you an example:
You want to say something to someone “one” day, however when you finally get to it, it’s too late, they are not there anymore. The time limit has expired to get the desired result (Oh bugger!)
Therefore, WHEN is the most important part of discipline! Do it NOW!
Discipline took me from being always tired, 20kg overweight, barely getting out of bed, physically sore, in an unfulfilled relationship and most of the time sad and depressed TO, being fit, healthy, energetic, flexible and have a positive self-concept. Not bad for 52 years young. Right? What could discipline do for you?
A person doesn’t do something necessary for their betterment because they prefer comfort over discipline. In order to grow yourself and your life, you must BE uncomfortable, stay in that uncomfortable feeling a few more seconds and then you’ll push through the pain threshold. Never quit! Become a force of nature, someone that can never be stopped, do whatever it takes whether you like it or not, right NOW. Winners don’t care about circumstances, they create their own. So, start thinking like a winner.
So how do I start, you ask? You start with making the decision and then find the education and educators to make it happen. If you knew how to do things, you would have done it by now. The unfulfilling situations you are in, doing the daily grind is purely happening due to lack of new or different knowledge. That was me for most of my life, until I found the right information, the right lessons that resonated with me and most importantly the right support from my coaches.
As a certified coach and facilitator with the Blair Singer Training Academy from Phoenix, Arizona, I work with people helping them find clarity of direction for their lives, discover and achieve their right goals, keeping them accountable and helping them find the discipline to do what they have to do, to lead the life they want, be in connected relationships, optimum health, fulfilling careers and overall contentment and happiness.
In conclusion, let me leave you with a gift that has changed my life and the life of the people I work with. Lesson #1 in discipline – start liking yourself. How? Every day for the next 21 days, every morning and every night (and any other time in-between when needed) repeat 20 times “I LIKE Myself!”. You might not be there yet, however the more you say it, the better it will feel and by saying the truth in advance, you will discover the spectacular person that you were born to be.
Be relentless in the pursuit of your own happiness and contentment.
